Hold the Date -- DFAW Spring Luncheon March 24, 2012

This year's DFAW Spring Luncheon will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Simsbury United Methodist Church, 799 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. Our featured speaker will be Richard DeLuca, author of the new book Post Roads and Iron Horses: Transportation in Connecticut from Colonial Times to the Age of Steam, whose presentation "Memphremagog or Bust!" deals with the nineteenth century competition between the Farmington and Enfield Canals and plans to obtain federal funds for both projects by extending already very ambitious schemes to the Canadian border. The title of the talk is named after the large lake that sits on the Vermont-Canada line. Mr. DeLuca has worked as a transportation planner in Connecticut for ten years and written on regional transportation for Connecticut History and the Encyclopedia of Connecticut History Online. He will bring copies of his book, which sells for $35, tax included, and will sign copies after his talk. Kane’s Market will cater, and the menu includes Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Broccoli & Cheese Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Honey Glazed Carrots, Salad and Dressing, Rolls and Butter, Beverages, and Dessert.
